Shikiriza Check is an initiative launched by Shikiriza Newspaper, dedicated to combating disinformation and countering hate speech in Burundi and across the Great Lakes region. Shikiriza Check aims to preserve peace, security, social cohesion, and democratic values within its area of implementation by strengthening information integrity and promoting reliable information that enables communities to make informed decisions.
The initiative also seeks to promote investigative journalism and encourage well-researched, in-depth, and balanced reporting, thereby fostering professional journalism capable of uncovering and bringing hidden truths to light.
To achieve this, we use different journalistic techniques and fact-checking tools, while also promoting media, information and digital literacy.
